Rock / Stone Identifier by Photo (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is an AI-assisted tool that helps users identify possible rocks, stones, minerals, crystals, pebbles, fossils, slag, glass-like materials, and geological specimens from photos they choose to upload or capture with their device camera.
1. Information You Provide
The App may process uploaded images, camera photos selected through the browser or mobile application, optional location or sample-context notes, selected identification preferences, selected result language, and any additional details typed into the form.
Please do not upload private images, faces, documents, addresses, payment information, medical information, or other sensitive personal data. The App is intended only for rock, stone, crystal, mineral, fossil, and geological sample identification.
2. Camera and Photo Access
Camera access is used only when you choose to take a photo inside the App and grant camera permission. The App does not access your camera in the background. Uploaded or captured photos are used to generate the identification result requested by you.
3. AI Processing
When you request an identification, the submitted image and form details may be sent to our server and processed by an external AI API provider configured by the App owner, such as OpenAI, to generate the identification report.
The OpenAI API key is stored only on the server side and is not included in the Android application, frontend JavaScript, or other client-side code.
4. Usage Limits and Technical Data
The App may process technical data such as IP address, browser or device information, request time, app version, package name, upload size, session identifiers, usage count, local usage status, and error logs. This data may be used to apply free-identification limits, prevent abuse, diagnose technical issues, protect the service, and maintain the App.
In the Android version, some usage information may be stored locally on your device, including free usage count, subscription status, product ID, purchase token, usage windows, and app settings. This local data helps the App apply free and paid usage limits without requiring a separate user account.
5. Accounts, Payments, and Google Play
The web version does not require a user account and does not process payments directly on the website. The Android version may offer paid subscription options through Google Play, such as weekly or monthly access plans.
Payments, billing details, refunds, and subscription management are handled by Google Play according to Google’s own terms and privacy practices. We may receive limited purchase-related information, such as product ID, purchase token, subscription status, and verification data, only as needed to activate paid features, restore purchases, prevent abuse, and verify subscription access.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Limited request, technical, diagnostic, payment, and AI-processing data may be processed by service providers only as needed to operate, secure, maintain, improve, and support the App.
These providers may include hosting providers, security services, analytics services, Google Play billing services, and AI API providers.
7. Data Storage and Retention
Uploaded images and request details may be processed temporarily to generate the requested result. Server logs, error logs, security logs, and technical request records may be retained for a limited time for debugging, abuse prevention, service maintenance, security, and legal compliance.
We do not intentionally store uploaded photos longer than necessary to provide the requested identification result, unless temporary retention is required for security, debugging, abuse prevention, or service reliability.
8. Data Deletion Requests
You may request deletion of personal data associated with your use of the App by contacting us at [email protected].
To help us process your request, please include the App name “Rock / Stone Identifier by Photo”, the approximate date of use, the platform used, and any relevant details that may help us locate the request. Please do not send sensitive documents or private information unless specifically required.
Where technically and legally possible, we will delete or anonymize data associated with your request, including relevant server-side records, temporary files, support messages, or technical logs under our control.
Some information may be retained if required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, billing records, dispute handling, backup integrity, or legitimate service protection.
You can also delete locally stored App data from your Android device by clearing the App’s storage in Android settings or uninstalling the App. Clearing local app data may reset local usage counters and app settings stored on your device.
9. User Responsibility and Safety
AI rock, stone, crystal, fossil, and mineral identification may be inaccurate or incomplete. The App provides educational and informational assistance only and does not replace professional geological, laboratory, safety, or expert analysis.
Do not cut, grind, heat, lick, dissolve, ingest, sell, or rely on any unknown rock, mineral, crystal, or geological sample based only on AI output. Some materials may be sharp, toxic, radioactive, contaminated, fragile, valuable, or otherwise hazardous.
Always verify important identifications with a qualified expert, geologist, laboratory, museum, local authority, or other reliable source before making safety, collecting, selling, or handling decisions.
10. Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can review and delete the information where appropriate.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, service providers, payment features, or data practices. The updated version will be posted with a new “Last updated” date.
